Firstly, we would like to say how amazing your children are! We are so proud of how resilient they have been during these uncertain times and how well they have settled back into school. Well done to each and every one of you! We are really looking forward to teaching you this year and cannot wait to have lots of fun along the way.

Here is our Lower School Timetable

 Autumn Term

Picture

This Term we have been learning all about Penguins. KS1 had some special parcels delivered to each classroom... in each parcel there was a PENGUIN! They escaped from our classrooms and waddled around the whole school. We made some traps to catch the penguin. We wrote all about where he went using our steps to success.

Here are some pictures of the penguins which were caught on the CCTV cameras.

Science

We have had lots of fun this week looking at hedgehogs and hibernation. We went into the forest and made some hedgehog houses. Take a took.

Reading

Book Box - Children are encouraged to read every day at home. We would like them to change their books once they feel confident with their current reading book. We will hear your children read each week to check they are on the correct levels.

AR Books - Chromebooks are available each morning for children to complete their AR quizzes. Books are changed in the afternoons.

Here are some fun reading games you may like to try at home.

Writing

We are going to be looking at different genres of writing in Year 2, letters, instructions, stories, recounts and in the Autumn term this will all be based around our topic Penguins. We have a 'writing like a champ' display outside our classroom where we put our pieces of independent writing. We put our most recent pieces on top and layer all our work throughout the term. This allows the children to see the progress they are making and what their next steps are.

Maths
In maths we will be covering a range of topics. number work such as Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division as well as 2d and 3d shape, statistics, time and measures.

Here are some fun maths games which you can enjoy at home.

This week we have been learning all about subtraction. We have been learning lots of different methods to help us including number lines, hundred squares and objects. We even looked at column subtraction!

School Councillors

Class LBP were all asked if they would like to be a school Councillor. Those who wanted to be one gave a speech to the class about why they thought they would make a good School Councillor. The children then voted for the person they thought would be the best.

So here are class LBP's School Councillors.

                                                      Growth Mindset

In Year 2 we learn about neuroscience  (how our  brain works)  and the difference between a fixed mindset and  a growth mindset.  We also learn that challenges make our brain grow stronger!

STEM Challenges

A STEM challenge is a practical activity which has elements of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. The activities also help promote problem solving, grit , growth mindset and team building skills.
