Welcome to MG

Picture
Welcome to MG!  My name is Mrs Goldsmith and we are supported by Mrs Impey who is with us every morning.  You can find out information, see important dates, look at the topics the children have been learning about and see some great examples of children's homework.  Please pop back to keep up to date with your child's learning.

Keeping in touch:
Wednesday at 3 o'clock is our class 'drop in' session. Here, you can pop in for a quick chat.  If you need to make a more formal appointment, please contact the office. Alternatively, you can use the contact form on this page to e mail me and I will reply as soon as possible.

School Council:

Congratulations to our class councillors who both gave excellent presentations to secure their votes for a place on the school council.  I'm sure they will both be brilliant in their new role.

Learning Council:
Our Learning Councillors for this year will be involved in a variety of different interviews and projects.

GREEN BEACH HUT
We will share our learning with our Green Beach Hut classmates in RBe, LC and UH.  We meet weekly for reading and assemblies.
Here we are sharing our love of reading...

Dates for your Diary
Parent's Evenings - Tuesday 10th March - 5:00pm - 8:30 pm

- Thursday 12th March - 3:15pm - 6:00pm
Outdoor play times and learning:

We often have the opportunity to take our learning outside, or get an extra play time! Please can children come into school prepared for the colder weather. It can be very uncomfortable if children are outside for more than half an hour for play and lessons, if they only have a light jacket and unsuitable footwear.  Children can bring boots into school for playtimes.  If they come to school in boots, please bring in school shoes that they can change into.  Gloves and hats are a good idea too - names in all of these please!
PE
Our PE sessions are on Tuesday morning (indoors) and Thursday afternoons (outdoors). Please ensure the correct kit is in school and should be clearly named.  If your child has their ears pierced, they must be removed before school if they cannot take them out by themselves.  Long hair must also be tied back.

Spellings and Times Tables
Spellings and times tables will be tested on a weekly basis.  Children do have the opportunity to practise these in school, however, there is an expectation that practising will continue at home to boost their success.  Children receive stickers, certificates and rewards when they achieve their individual targets.

Homework
Homework is due in on Mondays.  There will be a rotation of Maths, English and Learning log style homework with a week to practise times tables and spellings. Reading records can be found in the small books and should be signed to show how many times your child has read - at least four times a week.  Homework is given out again on Tuesdays.

Each term we also invite children and parents to join together for a parent - pupil project.  It is a great opportunity to create something special with your child.  We have had paint, wood, cardboard and even cake used as building materials!  The only restriction will be the size of your project.

Our Class Charter
In MG we have discussed what it means to be a successful learner.  We agreed on our class rules,
using our thinking skills characters and our core values to set out our ideas, helping us become the best we can be.  Our favourite is Yeti!  Ask your children to tell you why we love him so much!

PIRATES

Picture

Welcome aboard!

Picture
Ahoy shipmates!  Welcome to our Spring Term webpage where we will share our news and learning this term.  We have been enjoying our topic so far by learning about the history of pirates and how they survived for long periods of time at sea.  This includes our learning outside the classroom - making hard tack biscuits and creating our own pirate ship and Jolly Roger flag.
Our science has been states of matter - understanding the properties of a gas, solid and liquids.  For our second half term, we will be investigating forces.
We have begun to expand our theme into geography, where we have looked at oceans and continents.  We still have so much to discover but take a look below at some photographs of our work so far.

Thank you for continuing to support your children with their homework, reading and of course the amazing parent/pupil projects!
