At Holland Haven, every class has two Eco Warriors. They are responsible for saving electricity by turning off the lights and interactive whiteboards when they are not needed, and saving water by making sure the taps are not dripping. Every class also has a gardening plot. We use our recycled boxes in our Art and Design lessons. Over the years, some of our Eco Warriors have also been part of a gardening club - see below -and grown their own food!

An Eco Warrior is an individual who cares about our environment & the diversity of life forms that share it. Being an Eco Warrior is to simply care for our environment in our daily activities and decision making.

Planting Butternut Squash Seeds

On Wednesday 8th May, our new gardening club began! Mr Bradbury needed some help planting some special seeds.

What were the seeds like?

'Oval'     'Thin'   'Flat'     'Light'

The shape of the seeds helped us understand how the seeds had to be planted; they had to planted on their side and not flat so they didn't get soggy from the rain and rot.

'First we went to the Gardening shed to get all of our equipment and then we went in to the Greenhouse to get out pots to plant our seeds in. Next we went to the courtyard and filled the pots with soil. Before we put the butternut squash seeds in, we had to angle them sideways and poke them in to the soil.' Mollie

'We planted butternut squash, tomatoes and mixed flower seeds'   Shannon

Since, we have moved the seeds to trays where they can soak up the water. We have also been out to dig over the bed with gardening forks, and remove lots of the weeds. This was to get ready for when we need to re-plant our plants here.

We Would Love to Have You Visit Soon!             Address: Primrose Road, Holland-on-sea, Essex, CO15 5PP
