We have really enjoyed the topic of Pirates.
Look at some of the activities we have been doing..........

Pirates

Below is a table of the 7 areas of the foundation stage curriculum (3 Prime areas and 4 Specific areas)
It shows you the different activities we have completed
Personal , Social and Emotional Development

We have been thinking about the life of a pirate looking at different cultures.  We also had a circle time about stealing and discussing if it is the right thing to do?
Physical Development

The finger play table in our classroom has also been filled with lots of activities to get our fingers moving ready for writing! We have also been practising different races for sports day!
Communication, Language and Literacy

In letters and sounds we have been using our buried treasure game on the Interactive whiteboard and sounding out words and putting them in the chest (if they are real words) or
in the bin (if they are made up words!)

Understanding the World

We have made our own pirate maps....... we asked our friends to follow them to try and find the treasure!  We also looked at the challenge/investigation of looking at the topic of floating and
sinking we used different objects to see if they would float or sink.  We also recorded are results.
Literacy

We are writing messages and sending them away in bottles!
We are also writing a letter to a pirate, thinking about what we would like to find out! We have also been thinking about writing pirate stories.

Mathematics

Our maths focus is positional language and 3D shapes. We made shape pictures using the shapes.  Miss Belcher also hid jewels in the sand tray and we hunted them out! We sorted them by our own criteria.

Expressive Art and Design

We have been painting pirates, designing pirate flags and pirate ships.   In the construction area the children was set the challenge to build a pirate ship.

A Note From Miss Belcher and Miss Bareham

Please remember to upload you own observations at home of your own child, the children love to share the picture you upload with their friends.
