Our LSA in the morning is Miss Deacon and in the afternoon we have Mrs Beere and Mrs Webb.
Firstly, we would like to say how amazing your children are! We are so proud of how they have settled into year 1. The transition from Reception to Year 1 is a big step and they have all been FANTASTIC!
We are really looking forward to teaching your children this year and cannot wait to have lots of fun along the way.

We also have a calm corner where we can go whenever we are not quite feeling our usual happy
"green zone" selves. |
Autumn Term
This term we are going to be learning all about Castles. We will be visiting a real castle and finding out the different features castles have to help protect it and ways which knights would try to attack.
English
We have been busy building castles using different materials and then using adjectives to describe the castles.
Here are some photos of us making the castles. Which one do you think was the strongest?

After building the castles we had a go at using our steps to success and writing a sentence.
In maths we have been working really hard on writing out numbers correctly and looking at number bonds to 10. We made our own Numicon sandwiches to help us remember which 2 number add together make 10.
We have also been working on 1 more than and 1 less than. We played a fun game to help us.
In maths we will be covering a range of areas: number work such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division as well as 2d and 3d shape, statistics, time and measures.
Here are some fun maths games which you can enjoy at home.

Reading
Children are encouraged to read 4 times a week at home. Your child will have a reading book and diary. We will hear your children read 3 times a week during our guided reading sessions. The first session we look at decoding. The second session we look at prodosy (fluency) and the final time we listen to them read we focus on comprehension skills.
