Autumn Term - Castles

Thematic Learning! For example we have a knight school in outdoor PE and use different  materials in science for castles.

Spring term
 Dinosaurs
The famous fossil hunter, Mary Anning, has inspired us in English and History with recounts and her palaeontology skills. We  found an old suit-case with clues from the past.

Learning outside the classroom.
We have developed our outside learning area to incorporate a ranger headquarters, where children plan trips to 'dino world' through a time portal. They then bring the animals back to be checked out by 'vets' and 'park keepers' so that they can be put in the right safe habitats.

Summer term

Seaside

Year 1  are exploring the seaside in different learning environments around the school.
We did this by recreating 'the snail and the whale' on the hills and in the forest. We developed a seaside town by making a pier like Victorian railway entrepreneur Peter Bruff  in our outdoor learning area. We have a beach shop selling food ,buckets and spades and fishing rods , we have a boat sometimes with a sail , sometimes with steam-power. We have a bowling alley, a beach area for sandcastles, and a water play area with a solar powered fountain. These activities have given the opportunity to enhance the curriculum through rich role play.
