A little bit about us...
In Class 2C we are keen to learn and challenge ourselves to reach for the stars. We have positive attitudes to working hard and reaching our potential. We think about our core values throughout the day and we have reminders in the classroom to help us.

Penguins - Autumn Learning
Our theme this term is Penguins!
This term we will be learning all about penguins. This theme will link with our work throughout the whole of the Autumn term. We will learn and use a medley of different skills over the next few weeks that will help us progress in all aspects of our learning.
In Geography, we will be looking at where the penguins live in the world, their habitats and the continents and oceans. To use our sportsperson skills, use basic movements like penguins, perform simple dances inspired by the film Happy Feet. In outdoor P.E we will be playing penguin football using the tactics and rules of football but developing a personalised style with penguin players. In Art, we will use some drawing, painting, sculpting and crafting techniques to make penguin collages with mixed media. Throughout the term we will be looking at the skills to become a good citizen who makes a positive contribution within the classroom and school with the golden rules and core values whilst looking at the social interaction of penguins. In Computing, the children will practise how to make algorithms and make their own penguin sprite to program, code and debug. The children will also look at how to stay safe on the internet. In Music, the children will learn a penguin song from Happy Feet; they will learn to use their voices and sounds. We will use this theme to weave in our writing skills for English, using a cross-curricular approach to write letters, stories, information and instructions. Penguins will link to our Science lessons where we will look at the habitats and seasons. During Religious Education, the main focus will be on Hinduism and Special Stories.
In Maths, we will cover Number, Measurement, Ratio and Proportion, Algebra, Geometry and Statistics. The children will have personalised activities that focus on their individual needs and targets. They will also develop their ability to use the skills they have learnt and apply them to problem solving and reasoning activities. The Maths ladders in this Home-School Book show the progression of Maths knowledge and skills.
We will continue with four types of homework that will be set throughout the term: Learning Log, English, Maths, and Spellings and Times Tables Practise as well as some mindfulness activities. Please feel free to contact Mrs Cardy (KS1 Lead), Mrs Bird/Mrs Partridge, Mr Fletcher and Mrs Hawkins/Mrs Pankhida if your child is unsure about how to complete the homework; we are always happy to help. Homework must be handed in each Monday morning. Finally, your child will receive a ‘pebble’ for their team if they read four times a week, and a ‘triple pebble’ if they read an extra number of times so don’t forget to sign their Reading Record! There will also be ‘pebbles’ awarded for effort with homework.
Reminders: Homework hand in - Monday morning; P.E - Monday and Thursday (earrings to be taken out on these days outdoor kits will be needed). Please ensure belongings are labelled (water bottles, jumpers, P.E bags etc).

Our Special Penguin Delivery - Missing Penguin !!!
Welcome to the enchanted term of Wizardry! At the end of the Autumn term the children found mysterious magical invitations delivered to their lockers. Invitations to join a term at Holland Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Each lesson will be a chance for the children to master their skills to help them graduate for the term at Holland Hogwarts. The children will be inspected by the Ministry of Magic and they will receive a graduation certificate by an Inspector.
Our Project based learning means that our lessons all link. Over the Spring Term we will cover 3 projects: Wizards and Witches, Hogwarts and Potions.
In Science we will be herbologist plant detectives which will help us to make potions. Through ICT we will be learning how to use the internet safely, using ICT as a research tool and how to use simple programmes to help us with our spells. Through looking at Quidditch World cup, the children will learn about the different countries and continents around the world whilst developing their P.E skills to help them learn the game of Quidditch itself and learning to dance at the Hogwarts ball. We will be learning the Harry Potter theme in our music lessons to accompany the final ball at the end of term. In History we will be looking at wizards and witches in stories over the years. We will be replicating stained glass windows as part of our Artwork to combine the lessons. In Design and Technology we will design, make and evaluate our own wizards hats, this will be combined with Forest Schools, where we will be making wands. In Religious Education and PSHE we will be exploring the responsibilities we have in looking after ourselves, special objects and symbols. To celebrate icons of our nation we will be looking at JK Rowling and her achievements.
Literacy
In Literacy we will improve our information writing by studying the features of these texts whilst researching the world of magic. We will write traditional stories and compare the roles of different witches and wizards. We will have a problem later on in the term where the children will need to write instructions to help us catch this ‘problem’! We will then move on to explore poems using magic as our theme. During this term we will use the wizards as a theme to study and adapt our own stories.

MINIBEASTS - Summer Term
The summer term will see us stepping into the creepy crawly world of minibeasts! This term we will be concentrating on our phonics, in addition to times tables, sentence structure and punctuation.
English
Pupils will continue to use the toolkit they have learnt so far this academic year regarding sentence structure and punctuation. The children follow a 'steps to success' criteria and this term this will be extended to include commas, question, speech and exclamation marks. The theme of minibeasts proves to be a popular stimulus to engage the children in their writing.
As usual we will continue to learn the spellings of the first 100/200 words (which are located in the small Home School Book). A good incentive for children to learn these is that their achievement is celebrated in a zoom assembly when appropriate levels are reached.
We have talked about improving reading as a class and now read twice a day - silently. This skill allows the children to jump into the story and really engage. We also invite a couple of children to share their feelings about the book they are reading.

Mathematics
In maths this term we are looking at money, data handling and revising the four order of operations. The children will have access to a variety of resources to assist them during maths lessons. To help consolidate their learning further, they will visit the forest school area to gain a more hands on approach, from time to time.
We will also continue looking at our 10, 2 and 5 times tables (and beyond if appropriate) and discovering different ways to help us learn them.
Other Subjects
In geography we will look at minibeasts native to our local environment. Using the internet, we will research the habitats of the different minibeasts and their life cycle.
Forest schools - We will be making minibeast hotels from natural materials found in the grounds.
DT/Art - We are making our own Eric Carle minibeast using different textures and media. We are also decorating boxes to make a habitat for some clay minibeast models we will make.
For PSHE we are looking at mental health and well-being and differences between us all. We are also picking up on extra safety measures needed in our everyday environment. We have covered road safety, beach and water safety, stranger danger and online safety.
