At Holland Haven, every class has two Eco Councillors. They have a shared responsibility to bring awareness of how we can look after our school environment, local environment and global environment.

As a Council, we meet every half term. We create a shared agenda with achievable targets for each year. Mrs Cardy helps and guides us with the support of two of our Governors: Mrs Sharman and Mr Dunnett.

An Eco Councillor is an individual who cares about our environment & the diversity of life forms that share it. Being an Eco Councillor is to simply care for our environment in our daily activities and decision making.

We regularly hold Eco based assemblies - here is an example of one

Our Eco Council Meetings

We had a project of how we can upcycle plastic in the school - here are a few examples of what we have seen already......

One of our Year 2 students took it upon herself to write to our local MP Giles Watling. She had been learning about plastic waste in assemblies and conservation lessons and wanted to ask Mr Watling some questions........and Mr Watling, replied with a very lovely letter.

Things we do for the environment in our school.

A few examples are: potato growing competition; our Haven area; tree planting; herb gardens; garden planting; re wilding; willow arches; wildlife area; pond area; The Forest; The Hills; LED lighting project; percussion tap project, to name but a few.

How our curriulum supports our awareness of the environment.
