Lower School have had the amazing opportunity to discover what Hedwig the owl eats by dissecting owl pellets!! Mrs Ward collected the pellets on her farm, baked them in the oven to make them sterile, and then the children got to work with tweezers and paint brushes. They discovered the pellets were filled with small mammal bones and fur; they used an identification grid to decide what animals the owl had eaten. Who knew what could be found in poo!
Awesome Science Lower School!! ![]() Development of our wildlife area has continued this week, with a delivery of cobbles, pebbles and beautiful blue-green slate boulders. We have constructed a beach entry for amphibians and other wildlife, and also a ramp for critters in need of shelter to scuttle into the hibernaculum at the back of the pond. Looking good! |
