A small insight into our classroom!

We have a calm corner where we can go whenever we are not quite feeling our usual happy
"green zone" selves.

Our Thinking Skill characters are always available to remind us of all the different ways we can learn.
We have a lovely reading corner in our classroom which we can use throughout the day.

Children are encouraged to read at least 4 times a week at home. Your child will have a reading book and diary. We will hear your children read 3 times a week during our guided reading sessions. The first session we will encourage decoding. The second session we look at prosody (fluency) and the final time we listen to them read, we focus on comprehension skills.

On a Friday your child will come home with a library book which they have chosen from our school library. This is their chance to develop a love of reading by sharing a book of their choice with an adult. They do not have to read every word in this book, they can have this book read to them, read a page each or read to a teddy at home.

Here are some fun reading games you may like to try at home.

Phonics

We have 2 phonics session each day. One in the morning and another in the afternoon. This is to help your children with their reading. In June, your child will complete a phonics screening test. Below are some past test papers and some phonics games you can do with your children at home to help them pass the phonics test.

Top Dog is awarded to the child we feel has put in the most effort into their homework. They will take home the 'Top Dog Teddy' for the week.
Here are some examples of some super homework. Please keep revisiting, as new homework will be added each week.

Our  Penguin Is Missing!

A penguin was mysteriously delivered to our classroom but he escaped and is getting up to lots of mischief! We searched the school, but we could not catch him. We need to form a plan and set a trap!

    WOW Moments
Picture
If your child has done something amazing at home, we would LOVE to hear about it! Please fill out a wow moment slip, which you can collect from the classroom, and your child can share this with the class before having their 'wow moment' displayed in the classroom. This can be anything from doing really well at a hobby, helping tidy their room or being kind to a sibling. We are looking forward to seeing your children working hard at home as well as school!
