Behaviour and Learning Systems
Golden Time and Golden Assemblies Every week, if I have kept the golden rules and used my core values and thinking skills, I am able to take part in all of my golden time (KS2)/bubble time(KS1). This is a fun, short session at the end of the week/end of the day where I can choose the activities I do. I will also receive a gold star sticker to take home and show my parents or carers. During the week, if I begin to break a golden rule I will be given a reminder (and support, as appropriate) to help me to improve my behaviour. My name will also be moved onto a thought bubble as a visual prompt. I can then choose to continue breaking the rule and consequently lose minutes from my golden time, or I can change my behaviour to keep the golden rules and my name will remain on the star with the rest of the class who are following expectations. If I break a Holland Haven non-negotiable: swearing or hurting someone on purpose, I will lose 5 minutes of my golden time automatically. Every time I lose 5 minutes of golden time, or more, I will also incur a consequence of 15 minutes missed break/lunch-time and my parents or carers will receive a note-home. If this occurs three times within a half-term, it will be decided if a positive, personalised behaviour plan is necessary in order to help me succeed in my learning.
Every Friday there is a golden assembly where pupils from across the school are awarded golden award certificates for special things they have achieved that week. We also have achievement bears called Ollie and Holly; if my class has the best attendance and punctuality (8.40am) we are visited by the bears for the week! Also, if I have attended school every day, I earn a bronze, silver and gold badge across each term, in addition to extra incentives for winning as a class.
Star Behaviour Recognition
At the end of each term, if I haven’t lost any more than 4 minutes of golden time, I participate in a celebration activity. This is to recognise all the pupils that have maintained a consistently high standard in their behaviour and attitude, during that time.
Winning Teams and Crystals Each term I am a member of a different team; the team names are based on my phase’s themed learning links, for example, Wizards or Egyptians. I have lots of opportunities to earn crystals for my team all through the week and any adult in the school can award them. At the end of each term, the winning team in each phase gets to choose a celebration activity such as cooking or gardening. Crystals are also awarded for homework as part of a whole-school class competition: I earn crystals when I read lots and make a ‘gold-star’ effort in my individual homework pieces.
Community
There are opportunities for me to take on a range of responsibilities at school: friendship ambassador, school councillor, learning councillor, playground friend, eco and sports leaders. Pupils from Holland Haven attend Multi Schools Council meetings and we have long-term Global links with teachers in Ghana. Our school Eco Council represents staff, pupils and Governors. The school has links with the local church and library and assemblies are delivered by members of the emergency services including the LifeBoat.

Our Winning Teams
Every term each phase also have different themed teams. For example, while Lower School were learning through their theme of mini-beasts, pupils across the year group were either part of a ladybird, spider, centipede or grasshopper group! Whilst exploring learning through the Egyptians, pupils in middle school have earned 'gold' for their pharaoh...
Pupils can earn 'crystals' for their team for any positive behaviour or achievement, and from any adult in the school. For example, for being polite, solving a friendship problem, making a lot of effort or showing creativity in a piece of art. At the end of each term, the winning teams from across the school participate in a cross-phase educational activity.
Over the years these activities have included time with our pets in the rainbow room, cooking with our Catering Manager and Governor-Mrs Williams, gardening and forest fun with our Site Manager or Mrs Gilbert, dance with Mrs Clemenson, art and craft activities with Mrs Bates or Mrs Hudson and science experiments and drama with Governors Mr Freebody and Mr McCarthy!
