Science - Learning Outside the Classroom

We have been learning about the journey our blood takes around our bodies. We mapped out this journey on the playground and travelled around the route. We carried signs to show if we were oxygenated or deoxygenated at different points of the journey.

The route is:

1) Right Atrium (deoxygenated)
2) Right Ventricle (deoxygenated)
3) Lungs (becomes oxygenated)
4) Left Atrium (oxygenated)
5) Left Ventricle (oxygenated)
6) Muscles around the body (gradually becomes deoxygenated)
7) ...Then back to the Right Atrium!

In the Planetarium, we went on a guided tour of our galaxy, flying to each planet and hearing facts about them! Thank you so much to those of you who contributed money towards this event. These experiences are only possible with your support and generosity!

In Design and Technology lessons, we have been designing and making our own cuddly toy alien. We were taught how to use a blanket stitch to join the two layers of fabric together.

Forest Skills Session - Hitches and Lashings

1/2/2022

First we used a Clove Hitch to attach to the string to one of the sticks. Then we used a sheer lashing to join the two sticks together. This creates a join that still allows the two sticks to twist apart from each other to make the points of the stars.

Our Sign, in Memory of Mrs Williams

Class ULH are proud to announce that we have completed our new sign, featuring a poem that was written by Mrs Williams. It can be found on the fence to the Wildlife Area! The children were tasked with painting the letters, the butterflies and the stars. Mrs Hutton and Miss Harrison glued everything into place. Miss Harrison also gave it MILLIONS of coats of waterproofing spray! And Mrs Hutton's Dad (Mr Webb) fixed it to the fence for us. Thank you everyone!

Celebrating our skipping with a pyjama day!

8/12/2021

Each week, the four Upper School classes complete a 2 minute skipping challenge. We have to complete as many skips as possible in 2 minutes and then our scores get added together to make a class total. Class ULH have won EVERY SINGLE week since half term! This is amazing! To celebrate, the class have voted for a pyjama day, with movies and snacks. I think they deserve it after all that skipping! Our Pyjama day will be on Tuesday 14th December. Children can come to school in their pyjamas (or non-uniform if they prefer). The school will provide the snacks; no donations are needed.

Here is a graph showing our average skips per child. We are getting fitter and fitter every week!

Victorian Day!

8/12/2021

Tuesday 7th December, we all dressed up as Victorians! Parents - thank you so much for your efforts and expense towards the costumes. The children looked brilliant and it really added to the experience. The children visited each Upper School classroom to learn about different aspects of Victorian life. With Mrs Hutton, the children practised their handwriting with dip pens and ink. This was very tricky and very messy! Then Class ULH visited Miss Day where they played different Victorian games. With Mrs Harris, our class made Victorian flip book toys. Finally, ULH visited UHa's classroom which had become a Victorian school room... and Miss Hartley had become a very strict Victorian teacher. There were slates to write on, dunce hats for children who made a mistake and a cane which was thankfully only used on the tables... and not the children! Here are some photos of our day!
